About the Incoming Head of School
As summer approaches, I would like to thank Anita DiStefano for her leadership throughout the year. Anita and her team have done a wonderful job of providing our children with a nurturing and caring environment in which to learn. We all know that “happy children learn best” and we are grateful to the faculty and staff for their professionalism and the care they have shown for each and every student this year.
A primary focus of the Board of Directors over the past several months has been the recruitment of our new Head of School. We are pleased to announce today the appointment of Christian St. Pierre to this important position. Christian is an experienced and well-respected Head of School in the private and public sectors, at both the elementary and secondary levels. Prior to being a Head of School, Christian taught mathematics, information technology and economics.
From 2010 to 2015, Christian was principal of an elementary school in the Sir-Wilfred-Laurier School Board in Morin Heights. He then served three years as Head of School at École Bilingue Notre-Dame de Sion (EBNDS), like The Priory a long-standing member of the Quebec Association of Independent Schools (QAIS). Last year, Christian returned to Sir-Wilfred-Laurier to help lead the turnaround of a high school in Lachute.
When we started our search, we agreed that “the ideal candidate will have a proven track record in independent schools, demonstrating a commitment to elementary education and experience leading a community of outstanding teachers. This individual will have excellent interpersonal, communications and strategic management skills.”
Christian fully meets these requirements and is also fluently bilingual and bicultural. Having led a bilingual elementary school, Christian is ideally placed to help The Priory further strengthen its French program. We are confident that Christian has the know-how and leadership skills to ensure that our school continues to nurture each student’s inherent curiosity and promote an enthusiasm for learning, while preparing each child to be a responsible and self-confident global citizen.
In describing Christian, one of his former colleagues stated, “He is really good with students. He has a wonderful soothing and uplifting voice. I know that Christian has a wonderful business sense, but he also has the other piece – caring and concern for each student.”
Christian met with the faculty and staff today and will be joining us for a special assembly next Tuesday morning where students will welcome him to the school. Christian will also be at the Summer Fair on Tuesday afternoon. I encourage everyone to take a moment to meet Christian and welcome him to the Priory community.
Lastly, I would like to thank the Search Committee, led by Mark Anthony Serri, for their dedication, hard work and judgment. They ran an excellent search process against a tight timeline and have helped secure an exceptional educator to lead The Priory for many years ahead.
President, The Priory Board of Directors
