Annual Junior Winter Carnival
The Priory held its annual junior winter
carnival this week. For Thursday's planned event we were blessed with a
beautiful, sunny winter’s day. As is tradition, the children were
grouped into five arctic animal teams and they participated in an
afternoon of fun-filled outdoor activities to celebrate the snow. The
games included a snowball toss, penguin egg relay races, sled relay
races, parachute games, and ringuette relay races on the ice rink. There
were smiles and laughter coming from children and teachers alike.
Well-deserved treats awaited the rosy cheeked children as they got back
into class after plenty of exercise and fresh air. A big thank you to
everyone in making this year's Junior Winter Carnival a truly memorable
event.
Kindergarten Christmas Tradition
The sounds and smells of Christmas were certainly in the air of The
Priory Kindergarten recently as volunteer moms and dads, teachers and students
all combined their creative talents in making twenty-four festive
gingerbread houses for the school’s annual Christmas bake sale. Candy
canes, jelly beans, peppermints and snow colored icing were all gingerly
combined to produce an amazing array of distinct houses that Hansel and
Gretel would have been proud to enter!
Annual Family Christmas Craft Fair
On Friday, December 2nd, the
Priory gym was transformed into a sparkling Christmas craft emporium.
Children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 and their parents were invited to
participate in the third annual Family Christmas Craft Fair. Wreaths
were made from strips of old Priory uniforms and ornaments of all sizes
and shapes were glued and glittered with candies and sparkles. Cards and
snowmen were decorated with shiny garlands, ribbons and holiday stickers
while a team of dedicated Priory parents volunteered their expertise in
gluing and glittering the children's ornaments. A heartfelt thank you to
Dora Knez for choosing such imaginative crafts and to the dedicated PPA
Christmas craft committee comprised of Sian Matthew, Jana Motivans,
Sharon Davies and Ilana Kuska for organizing this spirited event and to
our wonderful parent volunteers for their helping hands. Thank you from
the close to 200 participants who will adorn their homes with beautiful
ornaments and Christmas cheer.
Weekly
Priory Assemblies
The Priory’s twice weekly
assemblies are an important aspect of school life, offering children the
opportunity to gather as members of The Priory family. Each Tuesday and Friday
morning at 8:30 am, we
share Priory news, celebrate achievements, acknowledge good deeds, reflect, pray, sing and
experience the spirit of our community. Parents are always welcome to join us.
Priory Pencil Awards
During Friday’s assemblies, Principal
Deborah Heuff awards children with a Priory pencil in recognition of
their good deeds and acts of kindness. Children have been nominated for
helping someone in need, cleaning up their environment and being kind to their peers.
Annual Priory Field Day
Name your sport! Is it the ring
toss? The hula-hoop marathon? Or could it be the ever popular sponge
race drench? Whatever it might be, most likely Priory children in their
Team colors participated at the annual field day. Mr. Gentile and the Grade 6 students did a magnificent
job organizing the field day event with the assistance of many staff
volunteers. A great time was had by all!
Annual Priory Spring Fair and Family BBQ
PPA co-chairs Johanne
Di Silvestro and Sylvie Koutroubis did a magnificent job organizing the
annual Priory Fair and Family BBQ held on Friday, May 27th with the
assistance of many Priory parent and staff volunteers. Present, past and
future parents and students were treated to fun games, neat prizes and
delicious food. Despite the rain, children enjoyed a fun-filled
afternoon indoors rotating through 10 stations of activities that
included playing the marble whiz game, cup and ball game, bean bag toss,
hole in one golf, and the junior striker. The grade 6 children had a
fabulous time singing and dancing karaoke while creating memories that
will last a lifetime. Thanks to all the parent volunteers who helped
with set-up, ran games and prize areas and assisted with food and
drinks, and thanks to all who attended and shared in The Priory School
spirit!
Annual Valentine's Art Workshop
Priory children joined art
teacher, Mme Kuska
and their Priory friends on Friday, February 11th for the
annual Valentine's Art Workshop held in the art room. This workshop was
indeed a labour of love! The children created whimsical glittery heart
pins and decorated beautiful greeting cards for that “someone special”
in their life.
