OFF-CAMPUS LEARNING

OFF-CAMPUS LEARNING

At The Priory, field trips are an integral part of the learning experience. Field trips expand children's learning through hands-on experiences and add realism to the topic being studied. Read about all the wonderful field trips our students have been on this year, 2022-2023.

AN EARTH DAY ADVENTURE

In celebration of Earth Day, our Grade 3 students embarked on an adventure through the forest of Mount Royal, on Friday, April 21. Although we are not situated close to an actual rainforest, this immersive experience allowed our young explorers to observe the layers of our local boreal forest and appreciate its rich biodiversity. By connecting with nature during this walk, our students not only deepened their understanding of the rainforest but also developed a greater appreciation for our environment, in honour of Earth Day.

The Kindergarten children boarded the city bus and travelled to Le Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, where they participated in engaging art activities, games, and a painting workshop designed specifically for kindergarteners.

TEAM BUILDING LEADERSHIP RETREAT

Our Grade 5 and 6 students took off on an exciting two-day adventure in the Laurentians, learning what it takes to be a good leader and a supportive teammate. Dynamix animators organized various team-building games and challenges, and the children rose to the occasion, strategizing and supporting one another throughout. Students also participated in outdoor activities, including obstacle courses in the woods, archery, and helping each other climb over a high wooden wall. After dark, there was an exciting hide-and-seek style teacher hunt by flashlight, and the evening ended with roasting marshmallows by the bonfire. Students enjoyed gazing at the stars, and, most impressively, being able to view Jupiter, which is at its closest and brightest in 59 years. From the smiles on everyone's faces, it was clear that great friendships were being formed and great memories were being made!

AN OUTING TO D'ARBRE EN ARBRE

Yesterday, our Grade 3 and 4 classes travelled to Parc du Domaine Vert (D'Arbre En Arbre) for an aerial course adventure. Students pushed their limits during their Arbre en Arbre tree climbing adventure while encouraging and supporting each other, and celebrating their classmates as they accomplished their tree link journey!

A TRIP TO THE BOTANICAL GARDENS

Our Grade 1 children travelled to the beautiful Botanical Gardens, as an extension of their ongoing study of the trees found in their neighbourhood. This field trip was an excellent learning experience filled with fun events, including a visit to the greenhouses to see different types of trees, taking part in a “potions” workshop, watching a Halloween-themed French play entitled, “Frisson l'écureuil et la course aux bonbons”, and playing outdoors in the “Magic Steps Circuit” playground.

ARTS WEEK FOR CYCLE 3

As part of "ARTs Week", yesterday, students in Grades 5 and 6 travelled to Théatre Ste Catherine to participate in an Improvisation workshop. Through warm-up exercises, group games, mini-shows, and stimulating activities in both English and French, students explored creativity, communication, listening skills, problem-solving, and working in teams. After lunch, in the company of a professional guide, students took a walking tour of Quartier des Spectacles to discover the origin and the current place of mural art in Montréal.

A VISIT TO THE ECOMUSEUM

Did you know that a porcupine’s quills are hollow like a straw and that otters have a transparent eyelid they use when swimming underwater? The Priory Kindergarten class does! On a sunny autumn morning, the Kindergarten class went on a nature walk with knowledgeable guides through the Ecomuseum grounds in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. It was a great opportunity to continue their classroom learning outdoors. The discussion of how Quebec animals prepare for winter in their habitats and which animals migrate, hibernate or adapt was brought to life right before their eyes. A big thank you to our Kindergarten parents who helped us out!
