FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Kindergarten: The deadline for Kindergarten applications is October 31. Our kindergarten class is set by December of the previous academic year. However, late applications will be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

    Grades 1 – 6: The Priory accepts applications all year round, one year before entry.

  • Please follow the procedure below to apply for admission to The Priory School:

    Submit a completed Application for Admission form.

    Include a certified copy of your child's birth certificate, or bring the original with you when you come for your personal interview.

    Submit your child's most recent report card, or school transcript, if applying for Grades 1-6, and any form of evaluation you have received from a daycare or nursery school if you are applying for Kindergarten. If this is not available at the time of application, please arrange to have it forwarded to The Priory.

    Submit a recent photo of your child (passport size).

    Include a non-refundable application fee of $50. Please make cheques payable to The Priory School.

    Download the appropriate Confidential School Report form and have your child's present teacher or daycare worker complete the form and have it sent directly to The Priory School.

    Once the completed application form and all the required documents have been received, the school will arrange a mutually convenient time for an interview with you and your child.

    Each application is thoroughly reviewed, and each applicant is given the greatest consideration. Following this, successful applicants are advised of acceptance in writing. If a place is not available, the applicant will be placed on a waiting list and notified when a place becomes available.

  • Kindergarten: Families will be notified of the time of your child's individual and small group interview and assessment. The assessment determines “academic fit” and program readiness by observing the following developmental areas: Math and English concepts and Social play.

    Grades 1 – 6: Families will be notified of the time of your child's individual interview and assessment. Academic evaluation (Confidential School Report, Report Card ) and social observation during a classroom visit will determine program readiness.

  • The Priory welcomes students who may not otherwise be eligible for English education in the province of Quebec. As the school is independent and does not receive government subsidies, applicants are not required to have a Certificate of Eligibility. The Priory can provide instruction in English to any child, regardless of the parents' origins or language.

  • The Priory School has financial assistance programs available. The Priory uses the services of Apple Financial and its Financial Aid for Canadian Students (FACS) program as a third-party organization to assess the needs of families.   • The Priory welcomes international students. To help students who do not have a foundation in English or French, The Priory offers a special language acquisition program to bridge the language gap successfully. The Learning Intensive Pathway (L.I.P.) is a highly individualized course of study that focuses on the development of the English and French languages, but still includes exposure to other core subjects. The language support program may involve an additional cost. We encourage all families to get in touch with us to answer your questions at admissions@priory.qc.ca.

  • The Priory Kindergarten is designed to provide an intensive start to French language learning. The language instruction is 50% English and 50% French in Kindergarten, with two full-time teachers. From Grades 1 – 6, the language instruction is 65% English and 35% French. Students receive instruction in French daily, in a variety of subject areas. Students attend daily French classes taught by French language specialists. In addition, Art, Social Studies and Physical Education programs are instructed in French.

  • From Kindergarten through Grade 6, The Priory children have many opportunities to enjoy authentic learning experiences outside the classroom walls. These class and school-wide field trips include the Biosphere, Biodome, Botanical Gardens, Ecomuseum, Château Ramezay, Mont Orford, Ski Trip, Owl's Head, VISTA Senior's Residence, Museums, Montreal Symphony Orchestra and various theatre performances.

  • The Priory School is home to 168 students.

  • Math, French, Science, Art, Music and ELA classes are taught in flexible groups of 12-14 students at each grade level. During Homeroom periods and Physical Education, two groups are brought together as one family group of 24 students in the senior grades.

  • Yes, one of the highlights of the Priory day is a delicious hot lunch, freshly prepared each day by our own chef, in our own kitchen. Lunch hours are a time of shared enjoyment and responsibilities for staff and children alike.

  • In partnership with Laurus Camp, The Priory School offers an after-school program that runs from 3:45 – 6:00 p.m. and focuses on specialized group activities and structured programming paired with a dynamic and energetic team of experienced animators. To maintain convenience and flexibility, families may use our after-school services as needed.

    In addition to the regular after-school program, The Priory also offers extracurricular activities and a full-day Ped Day daycare service.

  • The Priory School does not have a bus service; however, there are carpool services available. The contact information for these services is available at the Front Office, and services are arranged by each individual family.

  • The Priory has four competitive, interscholastic teams. Students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 are eligible to try out for these teams.

    Fall Season (September-October): Girls' Soccer and Boys' Soccer

    Winter Season (November-March): Girls' Basketball and Boys' Basketball

    In addition, each term, there are intramural sports during lunch recess. Students in Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 are welcome to join a team. A new sport, such as soccer, basketball, and European handball, becomes the focus each term.

  • The Priory School believes strongly and passionately about the school-home connection, and is proud of and grateful for its dedicated parent volunteers. The Priory Parents' Association meets once a month and welcomes new members with open arms. The Priory Parents are involved in many ways, including planning the annual Fall Mixer and the Halloween Party, uniform sales in the Potter Boutique, volunteering at Open Houses, gingerbread house-making in Kindergarten, and organizing the Christmas Family Craft Fair, to name just a few. Priory teachers are proud to partner with parents and welcome parents to share ideas about becoming more involved in school and classroom life.
